Student Highlight: Ms. Reenai Mason

Reenai Mason is a success.  In May 2013, Reenai graduated from Southwestern Illinois College with an Associate degree.  Not only did she graduate, but she graduated with honors and having made the Dean’s List.  She is an achiever.

Reenai is currently attending Southern Illinois University Carbondale as a Junior and is majoring in Workforce Education and Development with a specialization in Education, Training, and Development.

She is an overcomer. Although the transfer from a community college to a four-year degree program is a natural progression for most, the fact that Reenai enrolled at the community college was an accomplishment within itself.

It was always her heart’s desire to graduate from college, but she was concerned about going to back to school because of the enrollment process. Nevertheless, when life presented her with an opportunity to return to college, she took advantage of it.  The fear of a complicated enrollment process was a major obstacle that Reenai faced and overcame.  She was determined that she going to back to college.

With the help and support of her family and the Educational Opportunity Centers (EOC), Reenai made up her mind that she was going back to college and took the necessary steps to begin the process.  She credits the staff at the Belleville EOC with helping her remove her lingering fears about enrollment by walking her through the process and assisting her with completing all of her financial aid paperwork. Now, as a Junior in college, Reenai is continuing to achieve and looks forward to the day when her years of hard work and determination come to fulfillment and she has the job of her dreams - going to a job that she enjoys every day and making a difference in the lives of others.  Keep up the good work Reenai and know that the EOC will be there to support you every step of the way!
